Pterocarpus erinaceus is a valuable timber species originating from the semi-arid natural forests of the West African Guinean savanna. This species is an important source of forage for livestock in pastoralist communities throughout its range. In the absence of rapid action at sub-regional and international scale, the unsustainable exploitation of P. erinaceus is likely to have serious negative consequences for human populations and the environment in West Africa.

To avoid this, Benin, Nigeria and Togo propose a joint project entitled: Action Plan and Capacity Building for the Sustainable Management of Pterocarpus erinaceus (Fabaceae) in Benin, Nigeria and Togo.
