Malaysia: Establishment of Aquilaria malaccensis arboreta in Pahang and Selangor, Peninsular Malaysia
Short description of output announced and beneficiaries: This document was to report on activities conducted towards the establishment of an arboretum each in the states of Pahang and Selangor known as the Pahang Arboretum and Selangor Arboretum respectively, based on previous phenological and molecular studies conducted by FRIM. Several agencies involving personnel from different backgrounds, as well as the utilisation of many resources, were needed to ensure the successful implementation of the project. Each arboretum has its own sub-chapter dedicated in explaining (i) site description; (ii) planting design and layout; (iii) site preparation; (iv) planting stock production; (v) planting operations; (vi) maintenance and protection; (vii) costs; (viii) constraints and challenges; and (ix) next steps.
The targeted principal beneficiaries of the project are (i) researchers; (ii) forest managers; (iii) policy-makers; (iv) plantation owners; and (v) the general public.
