In the framework of CITES projects: "Comprehensive analysis of tree species of the genus Dalbergia and similar through the forensic timber laboratory to strengthen the application of CITES in Guatemala", and "Capacity building and technical management guidelines to prepare non-detriment findings for species of the genus Dalbergia in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua ”.
On July 15, 2020, the Coordinator of the CITES Program on tree species held a virtual meeting with the CITES administrative authorities of Guatemala and with the Coordinators of both projects, in which she highlighted the good inter-institutional coordination carried out in the implementation of the projects. in the country.
The meeting strengthened communication and coordination actions between the administrative authorities of the country, the CITES Secretariat on tree species and the project teams; They discussed progress and obstacles in their implementation, the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the mid-term evaluation of the project in Guatemala next year.
Guatemala, through its representative, expressed its satisfaction for this cooperation that the CITES Secretariat, with funds from the European Union, is giving to Central American countries.
