Tri-national meeting of the technical team of the CITES Tree Species Program in Managua, Nicaragua

The technical team of the CITES Tree Species Program, tri-national project (Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua) met for the second time in Managua, Nicaragua.

During 06-07 November 2019, the meeting was conducted with the purpose of reviewing the work methodology that is being used, as well as discussing the technical criteria and regulatory guidelines of each country to achieve progress in each of the products that the project intends to achieve.

The following matters were discussed:

a) Tool for monitoring the conservation and sustainable management of Dalbergia tree species in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua;

b) Forest management guidelines for the tree species in the wild;

c) Forest management guidelines for the tree species in plantations and agroforestry systems, as a measure for reproduction and to reduce pressure on natural populations and conservation; and

d) Rural Extension Plan aimed at the local population of Priority areas in Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua.
