Survey of species and specimens of the genus Dalbergia in the wood collections registered at Index Xylariorum of the International Association of Wood Anatomists - IAWA to be analyzed by NIRS technology
To build a robust identification model to identify Dalbergia woods by NIRS technology, it is necessary to obtain spectra from a high number of samples of each species. An online survey of wood samples of the genus Dalbergia was carried out in the most important Brazilian and international xylaria to obtain data related to the available material in the wood collections.
The selection of International xylaria was based on Index Xylariorum 4.1, considering the size, specialization, and the feasibility of carrying out technical visits to obtain the spectra. All the Brazilian xylaria that had a reasonable amount of Dalbergia wood samples were selected. Based on these criteria, 10 Brazilian xylaria and 8 international xylaria were selected. It is worth noting that the survey did not include information from two important international xylaria: Thünnen Institute (RBHw), located in Hamburg / Germany, and Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAFw), located in Beijing / China, whose data were not available until the end of the survey, but these collections will still be included in the project.
Among the eight international xylaria, 1,228 specimens of the genus Dalbergia were accounted for, with 185 specimens at the genus level, 940 specimens identified at the species level, comprising 103 species. In the ten Brazilian xylaria, 480 specimens of the genus Dalbergia were accounted for, with 63 specimens at the genus level and 417 specimens identified at the species level, comprising 38 species.
There are twenty-five species of genus Dalbergia with more than ten samples per species, considering all analyzed xylaria.
